Riding with us

If you would like to apply to go on our waiting list, please download and complete the form below.

Our riders are children of primary school age, with a range of disabilities encompassing physical impairments and learning difficulties.

Our group meets on Thursday afternoons  from 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. in term time only, at Weston Equestrian Centre,
Morton lane, Weston Longville, Norwich, NR9 5JL.

Each session lasts for up to 40 minutes, and consists of small groups of five riders with a helper leading each horse or pony, and usually two additional helpers, one on each side of the rider. The sessions are conducted under the care and supervision of one of our three qualified coaches. Activities include mounted exercises, putting bean bags in  buckets, bending in and out of poles, and hooking rings onto poles. We also play games, have races (usually at the walk!), and prepare riders for tests in riding and horse care knowledge.

Each of our riders is given their own set of aims to achieve, within the overall aim of learning to be the best rider they can be. These aims could be to achieve a rising trot, to be able to hold the reins correctly, or to be able to identify parts of the pony. Each child works at their own pace, with lots of help and encouragement.

We are regulated and trained at National, Regional and County levels. It is an important and necessary part of our responsibilities to keep records and comply with regulations from RDA National Office.

If you have to cancel at short notice please TEXT the group mobile 07592 551013 so that we do not pay unnecessarily for the hire of the pony.

Please make sure you are aware that our riding venue is located within a commercial riding school and livery yard. There may be machinery operating, also the possible risk of a loose horse.

Please be with your children at all times between the car park and the indoor school, and don’t let them run ahead of you down the path.
